Excursion

Experience the history of Okayama

The Kibiji district provides the stage for the legend of Momotaro, a unique part of Japan Heritage. On this tour of Kibiji, you can follow in the steps of Momotaro, visiting the shrine with links to Kibitsuhiko-no-mikoto, who is the person on which Momotaro is said to be modelled, as well as the mountain castle associated with the ogre Ura, and one of Japan’s largest burial mounds, which attests to the glory of ancient Kibi. Travel a little further to Ashimori Jinya, with its links to the Toyotomi Clan, and you will find a garden created by the Kinoshita Clan, the lords of Ashimori, and also a sake brewery where “Bicchu Toji” master brewers have been brewing sake in the traditional Bicchu style for 150 years.
