After working for many years in France and building a global reputation, in 2016 famed vintner Hirotake Ooka moved to Okayama City and opened the La Grande Colline Japon winery. Using only natural fermentation techniques, the winery produces a variety of wines, including Shokoshi, a red wine made with a grape unique to Japan, and Le Canon Muscat d’Alexandrie, a white wine made using Muscat of Alexandria grapes, all of which have become a coveted target for wine connoisseurs around the world. These world-class wines transform the conventional concept of Japanese wine, and it is from Okayama that this new viticultural story has begun.
