Okayama is truly the “Kingdom of Fruits,” where throughout all four seasons, various fruits vie to tantalize the taste buds, and of course, all of them are sweet and delicious. On the fruit farms and in the orchards of Okayama, master fruit farmers are constantly honing their skills, aiming “ever higher, then higher still.” When summer arrives markets are filled with white peaches, with a faint pink color and translucent skin. In particular, the “Shimizu Hakuto” white peach, which is in season for just one week at the end of July, is a special treat. The peak season for emerald-green Okayama grapes runs from midsummer through to autumn and the prefecture boasts a tremendously broad variety of exquisitely-flavored varieties, from Pione to Muscat of Alexandria and the ever-popular Shine Muscat.
