Excursion

Experience traditional crafts

Flowing next to Okayama Korakuen Garden is the Class A Asahi River. At Miyashita Sake Brewery, it is possible to tour the brewery and see how sake is made from the underground water of the Asahi River and also a distillery used to make local Okayama whisky. Eastern Okayama is a region that has deep connections with Japan’s traditional crafts. Bizen City is home to the Japanese Heritage site and special historic spot, the former Shizutani School, as well as the kilns of Bizen Pottery, which ranks among the six Japanese ancient kilns. Since the 12th century Setouchi City has prospered as a production area for Japanese sword blades. This is a route that enables you to experience the civility, spirit of learning, and traditional skills that remain alive and well in Okayama today.
